Concrete and Effective Support

Animal Advocacy Impact Engine (global)

The Animal Advocacy Impact Engine is our free international training and support program, in which we teach animal and vegan advocacy organizations how to implement Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) systems.

Organizations learn to conduct a needs assessment, create Theories of Change, identify assumptions, conduct process evaluations, and will receive continued support to implement these methods. During the program, we will continuously test and evaluate how to best apply MEL to animal and vegan advocacy interventions.

Many charities do not know if their activities lead to the intended outcomes. Organizations not monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of their interventions run the risk of wasting time and money on less impactful or even net-negative interventions

Monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) can streamline interventions and increase their impact. However, animal organizations often do not know how to apply MEL, have little time to spare, and sometimes feel their interventions are not suitable for a data-driven approach.

Our initial assessment shows the expertise to design MEL suitable for animal organizations and support to implement it, is extremely limited and not available for most organizations.

The program will initially be available for 10 organizations annually. Two staff members per organization will engage in 5 weeks of pre-reading, 2 weeks of half-day training sessions, and receive 6 months of hands-on coaching, support, and workshops. The program will end with a workshop to help analyze the information gathered and refine strategic direction and interventions.

Theory of Change - Training

Theory of Change - Training

Key assumptions

  • A comprehensive training and support program is sufficient to teach organizations how to apply MEL to animal interventions.

  • Participating organizations have sufficient skills, capacity, and suitable interventions to successfully apply MEL.

  • The implemented MEL systems generate the appropriate information to gain insights, support decision-making, and lead to more effective interventions.

  • Based on the insights and learnings, organizations are able and willing to change, stop, or scale their interventions.

Key assumption

  • By communicating our insights and learnings, we can inspire more organizations and funders to apply and experiment with MEL, eventually leading to a more evidence-driven animal and vegan advocacy community.
